About ISD ChipCorder® Technology

Overview
All OHP-Digital On-Hold Players utilize patented ChipCorder® technology. This revolutionary multi-level storage technique allows the unit to record and play sound - much like a tape recorder - all on a single microchip!

On-Hold Plus chose this chip because of its very clear and natural sound quality. While there is no direct comparison between the ChipCorder® and traditional flash memory, the ChipCorder's® sound quality is comparable to a 128 kbps sampling rate. Because of the technology used by the unit's ChipCorder® device, the recorded audio is not converted from digital to analog, allowing for a much warmer, natural sound than traditional digital recorders. The player's ChipCorder® device can be recorded and re-recorded reliably, up to 100,000 times, and then retain messages without power.

Technology
ISD's unique ChipCorder® technology provides a means of storing information directly, without conversion to digital, into standard EEPROM memory cells. Utilizing a patented multi-level storage technique, the ChipCorder® device stores up to eight times the information per memory cell compared to conventional digital solutions. This technological breakthrough provides an overwhelming advantage in delivering cost-effective, high-quality voice and music playback on OHP-Digital On-Hold Players.

Since EEPROM cells are non-volatile, ChipCorder® device does not require battery backup to preserve the recorded message.

The ChipCorder® device uses "multi-level" storage - a high-density storage methodology. Conventional digital storage, for example, stores one "bit" of information per memory cell - a "1" or a "0" (or, in terms of voltage levels, an "on" or an "off"). ChipCorder® technology improves upon this and stores up to 256 distinct voltage levels per single cell! That is, OHP-Digital On-Hold Players store up to 8 times (2 to the power of 8 = 256) more information in the same amount of space. Thus, for a given quality of voice reproduction, one-eighth the silicon storage is required over conventional techniques.

OHP-Digital On-Hold Players allow messages to be re-recorded up to 100,000 times and stored for up to 100 years!
